What do you say to this guy or your least favorite checker when they reject your coupon or informs you that “this won’t work” ? Well as you most likely know I have a few responses that I use and in most cases they seem to get the point across, they don’t make many friends and they do not always work as far as getting the deal but I at least find them entertaining. After all this coupon use thing is meant to be fun right?

This could get interesting, not because of what I might say (lord only knows what that will be) but because of what you all will be thinking about what I might say. I’m betting Ginger is thinking “ I thought this was a family safe blog” Well it is but my family only gets out of lock down on weekends and holidays Smile. So I will do this like this, I will post the rejection notice and then my response. If you want to chime in just stand up and howler real loud or post a comment.

#1, This coupon is not for this product.

if the checker is referring to the picture on the coupon.

answer #1 Sure it is.

answer #2 Why is that ( I like to have them back them self in the corner) When they say “The product is not pictured. (my response) Did you bother to read the coupon, I did. I quickly end the conversation by asking for a manager at this point. You can’t fix stupid.

if the coupon has the word “Any” on it

answer #1 Same as above

Answer #2 The word “ANY” covers this product

Answer #3 What part of the word “ANY” don’t you understand?

Answer #4 Stand right there I’ll be right back, What aisle can I find a dictionary ?

Answer #5 Try Scanning the coupon

Answer #6 Call a manager

That “ANY’ word is a tough one for a lot of checkers,it is only three letters and it seems pretty descriptive to me. If I have had this problem with the checker before I go straight to answer #6. If I have had this problem with the checker before and she smiles as she delivers her statement I go straight to Answer #5 and smile back. If I need to go through the entire list of answers on the list up to #5, I add Time for some fun preceding answer #6.

#2, You can’t do that!

Answer #2 Sure I can.

Answer #3 It worked at the last store

Answer #4 Can you give me a valid reason why I can’t.

Answer #5 Call a manager.

#3, We can’t give you money back!

Answer#1, I would if I was over there.

The reaction to that response is normally not positive.

Answer #2 Which checker knows your coupon policy and will refund me the cash?

Answer #3 Oh, Come on. Its only a little bit.

Answer #4 How did I know you were going to say that?

Answer #5 (should have been answer #1) Sure you can.

#4, You can only use one coupon per purchase

Answer #1 We’re not going to play this game are we?

Answer #2 So I need to do 60 transactions? hope you have some time.

Answer #3 If I have the time I will go into a detail explanation of the meaning of Transaction and the word purchase Purchase. I will use as many multi syllable words as possible and talk in both large and small circles, This response gets me no were but what the hell they started it.

Answer #4 Call a manager

Answer #5 normally a response to the manager If you make do multiple transactions using one coupon at a time I will be standing at the end of the register for the rest of the night and the first customer I see using more than one coupon in a single transaction the shit will hit the fan and it will not be pretty.

After that the manager will normally say, OKAY I’ll do it just this time. Well that is also the wrong thing to say at this point in the game. I have asked to cancel my transaction so I can split it into two transactions so I can test her statement. They normally just walk away at that point.

One important thing to remember is that you must frame the response properly. By that I mean deliver it with a smile, That really screws them up even more than they already are. I do not like conflict over the coupons I use, I do make mistakes and when I do I eat the loss and move on. But I do a lot of research and I do read coupons (Boring), it is not often I don’t get it right, That’s not a brag it is something I do to make sure I’m right, I like being right and screwing with the people that reject my coupons just because they think they can.

I have posted this last rejection on several post but is one of my favorites. While checking out at Wags handing the checker the coupons in the order that I wanted them scanned (overage) about half way through she stopped and said. It is your job to hand me those coupons Store coupons first . There was several other descriptive words added and a little more heated discussion in witch I comment on her job performance and was threatened with the wrath of the manager I not only agreed with the meeting but encouraged it. I informed the checker It is my job to save my family as much of our hard earned money as possible, I’m doing my job real well, how are you doing on your job?

Now not many people can find entertainment in these type of interactions but this sick little puppy does. I love to make a game of it. Be pleasant and always remember to thank the store associates (all 4 or 5 of them if your good) and smile as you leave with your deal, that really pisses them off.

I love this, it gave me a morning chuckle. I think this is so funny because it is so true. have you ever thought about writing a book? if you do, let me know, i would love to read it.

Thanks Beth & Melissa, I write alot of this sort of stuff and have a very good time doing it. This one is mostly true, I have never used "Oh, Come on. Its only a little bit." all of the other I have used and I do present them with a smile. Drives them nuts. Even though I try to present these post with a little humor it is as Melissa says very important. Coupon users need to know what the coupon says which will save them and the people in line behind them time. Anybody can argue with a checker/manager and win but only the coupon users that know what they are talking about leave a discussion with a manager with what they went to the store for at the price they planned to pay because they were right. Thanks
