I want to say either Menards or Target have cheap totes. Under $4 I think for 18-22 gal. Call both up and price verify before you go to any of them.

You could always get some wood and metal brackets and waaa laaa make some cheap shelves.

You can make a shelf system with some plywood and 2x4's I do not know if it will be cheaper initially but when you consider real estate on the shelving it would definatly be cheaper. You could also look for salvage or reclaimmed wood to bring the cost down. Another thought is to go to the Habitat restore.

Hope that helps. I know that without our wood shelving we would have no room or organization at all.

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

I have built in shelves in the basement and 4 black racks, 4 shelves high. But I started stockpiling in an 850 st ft apt so you find ways to be clever. I have totes also in the basement labeled and such. We welcome all storing ideas.

RE: Stockpile storage ideas
I just bought a coupole of wood shelving units that are six feet tall five shelves at Big Lots for $27 each and there is a 20% off coupon somewhere. I lined a wall and want to put a nice curtain across...maybe it will look like I have made a closet. I also live in an apt and do not have a basement.

RE: Stockpile storage ideas
I started with cheap slat shelfing for Target, when I got to 5 shelving units I built 300 sq. ft. of shelving in what use to be a mud/laundry room off the kitchen. It cost nearly $400 but a lot of the smaller stores would love to have the space. I also hace a cedar closet that is 6 x 10 in the basement I am working to convert to storage for mainly Paper goods and non kitchen items. As time goes on and my wife still allows me to go shopping I will be adding more. I can't wait for the last two kids to move out, have plans for their bedrooms Smile

I don't like store shelving. My husband is very good at building things, so I guess I look at as..why pay for that cheap thing when he can build a much better one at home. We have scrap wood that we use for stuff like that, and we have a full size basment. Kinda nice Smile I wonder if he can build some sort of "storage room" in the basement rather than just shelves all out in the open. When people come over they call it our "mini store" lol.
