Microphone Since when does purchase and transaction mean the same thing!
So funny how the same manager at Meijer seems to make up different rules for coupons EVERY time I go there. Seems when I get a cashier I am not familiar with they always seem to call the same manager lady who I have proved wrong several times by calling her boss. Well her boss was not there tonight. I had some meijer catalinas I was trying to use to purchase my next order. A few said one per purchase and some said neither and one said only one per transaction.

The cashier insisted I could only use one period bc they are intended to be used ONLY this way. Confused0024, I explained the difference between purchase and transaction and she got the manager.

Well long story short after kindly explaining the difference and seeing how we were getting no where bc I stand my ground especially bc she was already put in place by HER boss. She decided to play boss lady and proceeded to tell me that purchase and transaction ment the same thing, wouldn't budge only offering me silly explanation after another.

These were all meijer catalinas. I showed her a regular MQ how they say one per purchase each item they scan is a purchase and we are allowed to use more than one per transaction as long as we don't exceed coupons per items purchased. I had way more items than catalina coupons.

Well it boiled down to her insisting after a long speel about Catlaina marketing company that MQ are completely different than catalinas and that Meijer and catalina marketing insist that purchase and transaction mean the same thing.

Ok then why not just use the word transaction? Why do some say per purchase and some say per transaction then. Bc they like to confuse people. I think not. I know I was right but once again the store can refuse any sale, any coupon, any customer they like.

Most of the time I don't let it bother me but my kids were screaming that they didn't get the bubbles and fireworks and the mean lady had to witness the meltdown.

I will be contacting Catalina for a written explanation. Wonder if I will get one?!?

I had that problem too!!!
Except the manager was there and after the cashier said no no no and I can call the manager if you want but he'll say no.

haha he walked up and said yes do it!
When it gets that deep (as what your saying) I always ask "what part of this do you not understand". Transaction and purchase. Two different things. Then I proceed to do a visual example of heres a transaction and here is a purchase LOL

RE: Since when does purchase and transaction mean the same thing!
O yes! The transaction vs. purchase conversation. Had that one with Target the other day. I discovered that my Target had the Scrubbing Bubbles Extend Clean for $8.64, while another Target store, just 20 minutes away had it for the $5.99. I called the store and asked them to hold 16 for me. The cashier rang up my order, then, i think because I had so many coupons, she called this young man over to the register. He said, "Oh, you can only use one of these" I told him it said 1 per purchase and I was purchasing 16. He tried to tell me that they really meant 1 per transaction. I asked him to show me where it said this. He said that was HIS interpretation. I asked to see a manager. He told me he WAS the store manager. Not sure about this one. Dodgy I clarified with him that if I came through the line with 10 different items and 10 coupons, I could only use 1 single coupon? Finally he broke down and said I could do it this time but he was going to "check into it" for next time. Said he wanted to be truthful to the manufacturer so they would get reimbursed. I told him he sold 16 scrubbing bubbles, he would be reimbursed. He said yes that was true, but still acted like he was doing me a HUGE favor. Pish posh!

LOL I had the same issue as you Debberdoo at CVS. The manager always gave in but the last time she did it I had had it with you. I called corporate and she got in trouble bc that is not the coupon policy and I had told them she said its her interpretation and CVS told me she has no authority to decide that. Its what the manufacturer says. I'm sure the same applies to Target since they have to follow coupon rules. She told me CVS could get in trouble bc they weren't in compliance with the coupon policy set by the mfg. Wink
LOL I mean "I had had it with her" lol not YOU!
crap lol

The real problem here is that I don't think anyone knows what the REAL rules are. It is so frustrating. One per purchase and one per transaction seem pretty clear to me. Target coupons do, in fact, say one per transaction. It's all just very frustrating. It was very hard for me to stand my ground with that "manager" at Target. I'm usually the first to give in but I really felt like I was right and that I hadn't done anything illegal as far as couponing goes.

I never "give in". Blush The experience I wrote about with the meijer catalinas wording meaning different than reg coupons where purchase and transaction were different meaning on the MFQ coupon but the meijer catalina had different rules. There was no budging on her part. It was really a pathetic situation bc I visited the store the next day and had no problems.

Sometimes you can only say so much. I personally think its a wrong place wrong time. One day the cashier is bright and perky and everything is smooth. The next day the same cashier broke up with her bf or whatever and then decides to call the manager and cause a riot. And the manager just got in trouble for something not related to coupons and decides they want to be a pain. Undecided what do you do...lol
