RE: MPS Contest/Giveaway: WIN Dinner on us! Well kinda...details within
When my family goes out to eat, i usually get a large diner salad and share with my daughter, she's 9. my husnband gets an appetizer and a regular meal. the appetizer is split with the 4 year old and the regular meal is split with the 7 year old. everyone orders tea or water. the way we pick the resteraunt is usually around lunch, maybe on a saturday when it is horribly busy. i have to have a coupon, of course. or a gift certificate which my husband usually gets at work for side jobs. (he is a computer geek).

i like/love mps on facebook Smile

i promise to come back and tell my story about restaurant.com and i am getting ready to post the deal on my wall.

one idea i have about MPS when the email updates are sent for the replies to a topic, when i click on it i get taken to the first post. could it be possible for the link to take you to that post so you can start reading from there? sometimes if the post get really long it is hard to follow.

MPS...ROCKS!!!!!.

I try very had to not pay full retail at a restaurant_

1) 50% off certificates - I buy certificates at "Groupon" and "Groupon-like" sites. There are many different sites for my area. The discounts can be significant! Tomorrow night we will be using a certificate for a new Asian restaurant in our area.

2) Combine deals-Another idea is to combine a deal at the restaurant with a coupon...O'Charley's had a situation like this recently.

3) Online discounts-Last week we got $10 off $30 purchase for using Bravo's online ordering and curbside pick up service (It was SUPER easy to use and we will preferentially use online ordering as opposed to phone in from now on!).

4) Frequent Flier cards - Bravos for example has a card that after so many curbside pickup orders you get one FREE

5) Gift card bonus buys - Starting later in the fall many chain restaurants will offer a bonus gift card with gift card purchase (e.g. TGI Fridays)

I promise to share my opinion if I win Smile
Bonus Entry:

What happened to being able to filter match ups by the amount of discount? You had mentioned it would happen...I hope it still does.....Is it still in the works?

Is there a way to not get every new post in a particular thread fed through the RSS feed? For example if there is a hot topic in an area I have subscribed to then there is a deluge of posts that come in via RSS feed. Could that be limited such that there is a notice of the new weekly Meijer thread and then you can go to the thread and choose to get email notification of new posts? As opposed to receiving EVERY new post to the thread? I have stopped following some things in the RSS feed due to this Sad

Filters are being added to the new matchups system...when that is fully launched in a few months we hope all those features will be in good working orderSmile we are still in the process of testing and working out a few bugs that have occurred...

I am pretty sure you can just subscribe to thread...or post

Lets say you are in meijer and you want to subscribe to a thread or post. Click the one you are interested in and at the top of the screen on the right side there is thread options. you can then subscribe just to a specific thread.

I hope that helps...let me know if you find it ok..

I'm not sure this ranks up there with all your savy Coupon Queens, however, restaurant dining a luxury in our home. When we do, I try to garner as much benefit for our family as possible. Our Elementary School sells Scrip cards (basically gift cards) for major restaurants, clothing stores, services etc. The participating business agrees to give a % of the amount of the gift card back. 1/2 of that percent goes back to the Parent Organization and the other half goes towards my child's 6th Grade Camping trip. My daughter is in 2nd Grade, so hopefully, by the time she is in 6th grade that trip is paid in full. I only purchase scrips from restaurants who give out coupons, so when we go, we are benefitting our school, our daughter and I get to use the scrips more than once. It's great for those days when your crazy busy, low on cash, low on time to cook.

LIke I said not as savy as you more seasoned vets but it does help us tremendously. Melissa, can't wait to see what the updates are to the new system, I'm sure I'll have comments when we get to play!

Thanks for the contest!

We go to an Indian restaurant (yum!) that doesn't serve alcohol, but local laws allow us to bring our own bottle of wine to drink with dinner.

I'm not sure if all restaurants let you do that even if they have a liquor license - and I wouldn't personally do it at a place that serves their own anyway because it seems rude. But I know you can call ahead and check even if they serve.

Anyway, by picking a place that isn't serving their own, we can enjoy a "fancy" dinner out guilt-free with drinks without having to pay for a huge markup on the wine. Perfect for birthdays or anniversaries.
