Target2 How to Check Stock of an Item at Target
Have you ever searched for something at Target, only to discover that it's out of stock? Learn how to check the backroom at Target for your item - using those handy price scanners!

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Local Target store
* pen/paper (or a good memory)

Step 1

Locate the spot where your desired item sits on the shelf, and find the shelf price tag for it - containing the name of the item, the price, and other information.

Alternatively, if you are holding a clearance (red tag item), you may use the red price tag.

Step 2

Locate the DCPI number. This is Target's proprietary inventory tracking number - NOT the UPC number. It is located on the shelf price tag, and on the red clearance tags.

The DCPI is nine digits, and is formatted similarly to a SSN - XXX-XX-XXXX or XXX XX XXXX

Step 3

Write down the DCPI number, or memorize it - you'll be using it again in a minute!

Step 4

When you have your DCPI number, locate one of those red Target price checkers / price scanners. It is important that you find one that has a functioning number keypad on it - usually on the right.

Step 5

The price scanner should be prompting you to scan your item. Simply start entering your DCPI number using the number keypad. You should see the screen switch and display what you type. When finished, press enter.

Step 6

The price scanner will now give you a relatively accurate snapshot of the inventory for that item. You will be able to tell if there are any of your desired item in the stockroom, or out on the floor somewhere. When the apathetic Target employee tells you they are out of stock - you'll know otherwise!

RE: How to Check Stock of an Item at Target
Your Target may not have the appropriate self check scanners to do this, I was just in the Cary,NC Target and they do not, so you would then need to ask an employee to check the DCPI on there handheld gemini scanners
